May 2nd concert was not open to public, and it was available only for residents who are incarcerated.
Join us at The Church of the Epiphany in Washington, DC for an afternoon of music, poetry, and community discussion. This event is about coming together to celebrate artistic expression and creativity. Project Poetic Justice is a new initiative at the DC Jail, harnessing the talent and passion of young men between the ages of 18-24 currently experiencing incarceration.
Please consider contributing to this project via this campaign. All money will go toward paying artists and covering the cost of the performance venue.
This event will feature original poems written by the participants, as well as new musical compositions centered around their poetry. The program will close with a short panel discussion on the role of arts education in carceral settings.
Panelists for this event include: Dr. Amy K. Lopez, Collie Levar Long, Koumba Yasin, and Aram Sinnreich.
